Basic Assembly and Setup

I have Nybble assembled and wiring done- when I connect to my computer a blue light at the connection point and on the head illuminates and a cheery tune plays- however the cat does not respond to the commands on my computer ( stand or calibrate) nor does Nybble respond to the remote ( other than beeping when I press a remote button) - any suggestions - btw my nybble board is V1-2, I have the connections positioned so that the brown ( +) sides are closest to the board ( but did try them in the other orientation with no luck) - any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong would be much appreciated!!
