Received (probably) broken Nyboard

Hi,

I got finally the kit and have assembled everything up to step 4 in the assembly instructions. As soon as I tested uploading the WriteInstinct or any other sketch to the Nyboard, I only get:

Problem beim Hochladen auf das Board. Hilfestellung dazu unter http://www.arduino.cc/en/Guide/Troubleshooting#upload.

Ok, I thought bad luck and saw the troubleshooting in the manual. I tried several USB ports, cables, FTDI drivers and even computers. The FTDI USB2Serial works well (tested with different Arduino), but the faulty unit seems to be the Nyboard. Maybe I was unlucky and got a non-functional bootloader. So l have bought a USBtinyISP and tried to burn a fresh bootloader. I got the following error:

And I choose the right board according to my settings. The USBtinyISP works fine with a second Arduino I tested.

It seems my Nyboard is a faulty unit? Or can someone help me?

Every board has gone through quality assurance by pre-uploaded test sketches. It's unlikely to break without physical damages or reversed powering. I feel it's still a communication error.

How does the board behave when powered on? Check whether there's any loose soldering on the 6 FTDI pin legs. Powered through FTDI, the blue LED should turn on and the yellow LED may blink. The board should make a sound indicating the test sketch is started (the sketch may be overwritten by your previous operations though). If powered through battery, both blue and yellow LEDs should lit up steady. Pay attention don't ever connect the polarity of batteries reversely. It will damage the board at once.

Since you have a USBtinyISP, you can also try to "upload the sketch with programmer" to see whether the logic chip ATmega328P is good. Make sure that you're making good contacts between the pins. Follow the instruction 4.2.4 to save ATmega328_20MHz.hex to your local folder.

Do you happen to have an Arduino Pro Mini (16MHz)? NyBoard is basically that board with peripherals.
